Drinkaware
Drinkaware is a leading alcohol education charity that helps people make better choices about their drinking. The organisation set out to redesign its mobile app, MyDrinkaware, a free tool that enables users to track their alcohol intake, set goals and build healthier habits over time. The project involved a complete redesign of the app from the ground up, improving usability, visual clarity and emotional tone while aligning it more closely with Drinkaware’s mission of positive behavioural change.

The app needed to feel supportive rather than judgemental, acting as a companion instead of a tracker. Core user flows were restructured to make features such as drink logging, goal setting and weekly progress easier and more rewarding to use. Visual cues and messaging were carefully selected to encourage positive progress without overwhelming users. The interface was simplified with a cleaner hierarchy, larger touch targets and inclusive illustrations, all designed to support people looking to moderate their drinking in a realistic and non clinical way.

Alongside the UX and UI improvements, the project introduced Drinkaware’s refreshed global brand system to the mobile experience for the first time. This involved translating colour palettes, typography and illustration styles into functional mobile components while maintaining accessibility across light and dark modes. The brand and marketing teams collaborated closely to interpret visual guidelines into a usable and scalable design system that supported both clarity and emotional connection in a health focused setting. The result is a consistent, user centred app experience that strengthens the Drinkaware brand across digital touchpoints.
