M&S
The team partnered with Glasgow based product design studio Filament and specialty coffee roaster Matthew Algie to create the M&S self serve coffee machine. Filament led the physical product design, while the team was responsible for the full user experience and visual design of the twelve inch touchscreen interface. The aim was to deliver a seamless, high quality ordering experience that allowed customers to choose from a range of drinks, customise them to their preferences or dietary needs, and walk away with something that felt far beyond standard vending.

The interface was designed to feel at home within an M&S retail environment — clean, refined and aligned with the brand’s visual language. A bespoke interface was created from the ground up, carefully balancing utility with warmth and craft. Every interaction was simplified to reduce friction while still offering choice and customisation. The visual design drew from the M&S colour palette and tone, with clear menu structures and legible touch targets optimised for all users. The result was a calm, confident experience that elevated a typical grab and go coffee moment.

Alongside the core interface, the team led the creative direction across supporting assets. A custom icon set was developed for drink types and modifiers to ensure clarity and character throughout the menu. A bespoke photography shoot was art directed to capture high quality imagery that guided users through their selection with visual confidence. Working with a motion designer, the team also produced custom pour animations that matched the rhythm of the machine’s physical dispensing, aligning visuals, motion and sound for a seamless and premium feeling experience from selection to serve.
